COLTS DEFEAT FALCONS 4-2

To the list of classic football rivalries the likes of Michigan-Ohio State, Army-Navy, Virginia-Virginia Tech and Alabama-Auburn, add the vaunted FYF Colts and the tough and talented FYF Falcons.

When both teams handily won their first two games by relatively gaudy scores, a quality match up was anticipated and the five-, six- and seven-year-old gridiron warriors did not disappoint.

After racking up 41 touchdowns between them in four games, a high scoring game seemed to be inevitable. But the Colts and Falcons had other ideas as their stingy defenses dominated both halves in a game ending with a 4-2 Colts victory.

After a shaky first series where the Falcons didn’t give an inch, the Colts scored four touchdowns in the opening quarter – two on their patented long runs.

In the second quarter, the Falcons attacked the Colts with their two staples – the naked bootleg and the screen pass. While the Falcons scored one TD, the Colts defense ended the half with an impressive goal line stand for a 4-1 halftime lead.

The Falcons stuffed the Colts offense in the third quarter allowing only one penetration inside the 10 yard line. That drive ended with a Colts’ fumble.

Not to be out defensed, the Colts shut down the Falcons offense in the final quarter yielding one touchdown as the 12th man on both squads was clearly fatigue.
